Reservation for Network Services Procurement

In April 2025 Ofgem approved NESO’s package of reforms enabling changes to the reformed connection process.

As part of the approval, Ofgem approved the expansion of the scope of reservations that can be made by NESO. Reservation is when NESO holds transmission network capacity for a project with ‘Gate 1’ status, so that the project effectively has a place in the Gate 2 queue. The reservation can either be for a specific project or a non-project specific requirement i.e. reserving bays for a future leasing round. The reservation will be held for time period to be agreed between NESO and the relevant project and will be reviewed at least annually.

Please note, NESO has previously been able to reserve bays under STCP16-1 for Network Services Procurement.

Thank you to those who took the time to submit a project-specific reservation proforma within the Long-Term 2029 Expression of Interest stage. The submitted project-specific reservation proformas have been reviewed by NESO. Following this process, we have decided not to progress with project specific reservation for any of the submitted projects on this occasion. Projects with existing agreements should therefore participate in the G2WQ process as normal.

We continue to reserve the non-project specific bays we indicated in the Connections Requirements document.
