Great Britain’s energy explained: February

In February, wind was Great Britain’s largest source of electricity generation, providing 36.3%. Gas followed closely behind at 29.4%.

 

The highest electricity demand was recorded at 43,565 MW on 3 February at 6pm and 25 TWh ran securely through the network, that’s enough to run 25 billion washing machine cycles.

 

The largest share of our gas came from UK and Norwegian gas fields at 58% with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) imports providing 35% and storage withdrawal provided the remaining 7%. 

 

Distribution networks transported 66% of our gas to homes, offices, hospitals etc and power stations received 18%.
