Great Britain’s energy explained: October

In October, wind was the primary source of electricity generation for the third consecutive month, providing 34.1% of Great Britain’s total supply, while gas followed at 28.8%.

Zero carbon sources made up 61% of our electricity, reaching a peak of 93% on 23 October at 8:30pm.

The highest electricity demand was recorded at 37,893 MW on 27 October at 4:30pm.

Most of our gas supply, 84%, came from UK and Norwegian gas fields, with Liquefied Natural Gas imports providing 13% and storage withdrawal the remaining 3%.

Distribution networks transported 55% of our gas to homes and businesses and 22% was used to generate electricity.
