Great Britain’s Monthly Energy Stats
Great Britain’s energy explained: November
In November, gas was our largest source of generation, providing 38.3% of Great Britain’s electricity with wind coming second at 26.6%.
42% of electricity came from zero carbon sources, peaking at 84% on 24 November at 4am.
Demand for electricity peaked at 5pm on 20 November and 24 TWh ran through the network, enough to boil 4,956 billion kettles.
73% of our gas came from UK and Norwegian gas fields, with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) imports providing 18%, storage withdrawal 8% and European imports 1%.
Distribution networks transported 64% of our gas to homes and businesses. Power stations used 22% to generate electricity, we exported 8% and stored the remaining 4%.
