About NESO

NESO is at the heart of the transformation to a fully decarbonised electricity system by 2035, while continuing each day to reliably and safely move electricity across Great Britain second-by-second. Find out more information about the National Energy System Operator.

Who we are

NESO will be built upon our previous experience as the Electricity System Operator (ESO). As ESO, we had extensive expertise in balancing electricity supply and demand 24/7 without interruption, whilst making sure the networks we operated and the markets we served were prepared for the future.

What we do

At NESO we bring together 8 key functions required to deliver the plans, markets and operations of the energy system of today and the future. Find out more information about those 8 key areas.
