Following the Optimisation Focus Group on 01 June 2026, we have carefully reflected on the feedback received both during and after the webinar regarding how MDO and MDB values will be used by the optimiser. We have listened closely to concerns raised around the previous approach including the use of the most restrictive MDO and MDB values from the start of a BM window, and the potential impact this may have on the effective utilisation of limited duration assets.

In response to this feedback, the algorithm has been revised and will no longer apply additional protection, instead operating directly on the data submitted. We are currently developing Version 2 of the MDO/MDB Best Practice Guide. This updated guidance will correct for this & include a clearer explanation of how the optimiser works, addressing areas that were not covered in Version 1. Additional worked examples reflecting requests raised by stakeholders will be shared separately to prevent any delays in the updated guidance being shared.

Version 2 of the guidance will be shared with industry by 19 June 2026.

To avoid any potential confusion, we will not be issuing the slide pack or recording from the 01 June session, as this reflects earlier thinking that has since evolved based on your feedback.

This session will:

  • Walk through the updates to the guidance and the rationale behind them
  • Provide a clear, visual explanation of how the optimiser will use submitted data
  • Address outstanding questions from the previous session
  • Offer an opportunity for further Q&A and discussion

Slide content from this session will be shared afterwards. We would like to thank you for your continued support in navigating GC0166 and for working collaboratively with us to refine this guidance.
