Continue the conversation this autumn on the future of energy in your local area

If you have an interest in the energy system in your local area, with a particular focus on our new Regional Energy System Planning (RESP) role, you can now register to take part in our third round of RESP Forums taking place this October across Scotland, Wales and England.

In November 2023, we were given a new role to develop regional energy strategic plans (RESPs) for Scotland, Wales and the nine English regions. The purpose of these plans is to accelerate changes to the energy distribution networks, ensuring local areas get the energy system they need to help meet local and national goals, while minimising costs to energy bill payers.

As NESO, we’re committed to ensuring the views of our customers are at the heart of our work to plan the future energy system. The RESP forums are a key part of our approach, helping us get to know the nations and regions we’ll be working with, to share our latest progress and thinking, and to invite feedback that we can use to shape our work.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first two RESP forums, held in the spring and earlier this summer. Over 2,000 people attended the sessions, helping to shape the approach to the delivery of our new RESP role.

We’re now looking to build on these conversations at our next round of forums in October. The focus this time will be on two key items:

  • the tRESP consultation, which is live from 23 September to 3 November 2025. Further information on the consultation is available here.
  • the forthcoming RESP Methodology consultation, which will launch in November 2025.

Agenda for our autumn 2025 forums

  1. Welcome and introduction
  2. Progress updates since the summer forums
  3. tRESP consultation overview
  4. RESP Methodology consultation – an update on the forthcoming consultation on the RESP Methodology, which will set out how we’ll produce the first set of full RESPs, starting in 2027
  5. Strategic Spatial Energy Plan (SSEP) update
  6. Next steps and Q&A

More information on our RESP forums

The forums are held online. The same content is presented at each meeting apart from any information specific to the nations and regions. So, you only need to attend the forum that is relevant to your local area. However, if you have interests in more than one nation or region, you’re welcome to join multiple sessions.

We held two webinars to launch the tRESP consultation, on 23 and 29 September. Download a copy of the slides and access the consultation document
