Since 2020, the Voltage Pathfinders have procured for long-term voltage requirements.
Through the development of a reactive power market, these tenders form part of the enduring route to market for provision of reactive power (voltage) services through an open, transparent, and competitive market.
The long-term market will now form part of Network Services programme, and the market will continue to drive locational investment and enable greater competition in the delivery of reactive power services.
Following the completion of system studies, NESO have identified needs for locational reactive power services across Great Britain from 2029 onwards. To help meet these requirements, NESO are launching its first long-term tender under the reactive power market.
