Shape the future of Great Britain’s gas transmission network

As we progress towards a future powered by clean energy, the role of a resilient and secure gas network is becoming increasingly crucial.

From 6 May to 3 June, you can respond to our first gas network consultation on the Gas Options Advice (GOA) methodology. By taking part, you’ll help identify the most effective network investment solutions proposed by Britain's gas transmission owner and operator, National Gas Transmission.

What is the Gas Options Advice Methodology?

As specified in our gas system planner licence, the Gas Options Advice (GOA) methodology will recommend suitable solutions to meet the system needs of Great Britain’s gas transmission network.

The GOA document, due to be published later this year, will provide an independent assessment of investment proposals from National Gas Transmission. These proposals aim to create a network that is safe, resilient, and aligned with clean power goals. The methodology will evaluate gas network options based on economic, environmental, and social impact, ensuring a holistic approach to network planning.

The GOA methodology is part of the wider strategic planning work we’re undertaking to identify our nations whole energy system needs and ensure our energy system can be designed and built accordingly.
