Connections Reform

New leadership for connections at NESO

As we continue to focus on the critical task of delivering connections reform, improving customer trust and moving through our transformation journey to embed our enduring connections service, we're pleased to share with you an update on our senior team.

From 13 April:

  • Matt Magill will return to his role as Director of Engineering & Customer Solutions. Over the past nine months, Matt has led the connections reform team on an interim basis, through the transformation of the previous connections queue into Great Britain’s new delivery pipeline. Now is the right moment in the connections timeline for Matt to return to his enduring role in E&CS, where he will remain close to the delivery of grid connections for our customers. We would like to thank Matt for his leadership during this critical period and for the significant delivery he and the team have achieved.
  • Colm Murphy will take up the new role of Director of Connections on a permanent basis. Colm brings over a decade of experience in the energy sector, having overseen the major transformation project that established NESO, as well as the programme to deliver new balancing systems into the Electricity National Control Centre. To operationalise the enduring connections model in a sustainable way, we recognised the need for a more permanent structure - Colm’s appointment is an important step on that journey. Colm is looking forward to engaging with you all and will reach out to you soon. In the meantime, please use established communications channels for any connections related questions.

Our Connections Reform Programme

Outdated grid processes have long held us back, but our connections reform programme is changing that. The current queue is around four times what’s needed for 2030 and double 2050. By prioritising projects that are ready and needed, we're unlocking £40 billion in annual investment, creating jobs, and setting the stage for future developments. Watch our video to learn more.
