Great Britain’s Monthly Energy Stats
Great Britain’s energy explained: June
In June, wind provided the largest share of Great Britain’s electricity at 27%, with gas coming closely behind at 26.2%.
Electricity demand peaked at 6:30pm on 25 June at 31.74 GW. This didn’t coincide with any of the months Fifa World Cup matches, but our control room has been managing increases in demand caused by the TV Pick Up effect, including 500 MW at halftime during England vs Croatia.
The majority of our gas supply came from UK and Norwegian gas fields, accounting for 90%, with 5% being withdrawn from storage and the remaining 5% from liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports.
Distribution networks delivered 34% of our gas to homes, offices, hospitals, and other facilities, while 38% was exported.

Our control room experts continue to balance electricity supply and demand second by second – and you can follow the electricity mix live in our carbon intensity app - available on Google Play Store and The App Store.
