Great Britain’s energy explained: May
In May, wind was our largest source of generation, providing 26.7% of Great Britain’s electricity. Gas came second at 20.4%.
Zero carbon sources accounted for 57% of our electricity, peaking at 86% on 29 May at 9am.
Demand for electricity was at it’s highest of 29787MW on 6 May at 7pm.
The largest share of our gas came from UK and Norwegian gas fields at 86% with both Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) imports and storage withdrawal providing 7%.
Distribution networks transported 42% of our gas to homes and businesses. Power stations used 17% to generate electricity.
