Great Britain’s Monthly Energy Stats

Great Britain’s energy explained: December

In December, wind was the primary source of electricity generation for the fifth consecutive month, providing 37.8%.

On 5 December at 5:30pm wind generated a record 23,825 MW of electricity, at the time that was 47.4% of our total supply and enough to power over 23 million homes.

Zero-carbon sources made up 67% of our electricity, reaching a peak of 91% on 9 December at 3:30am.

The highest electricity demand was recorded at 42,380 MW on 4 December at 5pm.

Gas was our second largest source of electricity with most of our gas supply, 73%, coming from UK and Norwegian gas fields. Liquefied Natural Gas imports provided 23% and storage withdrawal the remaining 4%.

Distribution networks transported 70% of our gas to homes and businesses and 16% was used to generate electricity.
