Great Britain’s Monthly Energy Stats

Great Britain’s energy explained: May

During May’s bank holiday weekend, Great Britain’s electricity system experienced its lowest ever transmission demand, reaching 12.62 GW between 1 – 1:30pm. Sunny weather, high solar generation and the nation enjoying the heat all contributed to this, and our control toom ensured the system operated securely throughout. But where did our energy come from during the whole month?

Wind was GB’s leading source of electricity generation at 24.7%, gas came a close second at 22.6%.

The majority of our gas supply came from UK and Norwegian gas fields, accounting for 83%, with 11% being withdrawn from storage and the remaining 6% from liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports.

Distribution networks delivered 50% of our gas to homes, offices, hospitals, and other facilities, while 26% was exported.
