Read our June 2025 Digitalisation Strategy and Action Plan (DSAP) to find out how we’re continuing to leverage digital technology and innovation to lead the energy sector towards a sustainable future.

The energy landscape continues to evolve at pace, with decarbonisation, affordability and security of supply still our core imperatives. As the organisation responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas network and operating the electricity system, we remain committed to delivering change through a whole-system lens.

Our strategy, aligned to our six priorities, is a flexible-led approach, which outlines how we’re transforming our people, processes, data and technology.

Our DSAP is guided by the six main principles below - these will help us achieve our digital vision.

DSAP June 2025 – what has changed?

We’ve gathered feedback on performance incentives and business plan requirements to ensure our digital initiatives align with customer expectations and that we prioritise the right investments.

Since our December 2024 DSAP, we’ve made significant progress. Our June 2025 publication is underpinned by several key developments and updates:

  • Publication of Business Plan 3 (BP3) and Ofgem response: These foundational documents provide the regulatory and strategic context for our DSAP, ensuring alignment with wider sector energy goals and compliance expectations.
  • Interim Coordinator for UK’s Data Sharing Infrastructure role: The plan incorporates our new role as interim coordinator, reinforcing NESO’s commitment to collaborative data ecosystems.
  • Updated strategies: Enhancements have been made to our Customer, AI, and Data strategies, ensuring they remain relevant and forward-looking in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
  • Separated NESO systems, processes and services – we’ve made progress in our journey to separate our digital infrastructure, systems and services from National Grid.

Although the June DSAP exists as an interim view of updates to our Action Plan investments, we’ve chosen to highlight progress made across our Customer, Data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) principles, and demonstrate progress and continued transparency.

By strengthening data sharing, embracing early AI adoption, and collaborating with our customers, we can create a more interconnected and efficient energy network.
