PAST EVENT: Regional Energy Strategic Planning (RESP): Methodology Consultation Webinar – Pathways, Consistent Planning Assumptions and Spatial Context

25 November 2025 - 1:30pm to 3pm
Strategic planning
/ Regional Energy Strategic Planning (RESP)

RESP will provide a range of potential future pathways to net zero, providing different energy options in each of the nations and regions. The RESP pathways will account for local ambitions along with national plans. The RESP pathways are one of the key products that we will publish, and the pathways will support network operators in their price control planning. Our methodology sets out the framework for these pathways, how we will approach analysing and modelling and our decision-making process

Consistent Planning Assumptions is one of the components identified for RESP. It is essential for securing a common basis for planning across distribution networks. By defining a shared set of planning assumptions for key technologies and sectors, we can enable consistent assessment of network impact —supporting coordinated and efficient investment across distribution networks. This will improve consistency, and hence confidence, in identifying investment needs and ensure that network plans are consistently aligned to every RESP.

The Spatial Context is a key geospatial component of the RESP. It will provide an accessible digital mapping tool that visualises RESP Pathways (future demand and generation scenarios) alongside existing and planned electricity and gas distribution network capacities, as well as broader whole-system data.

It offers an integrated, multi-vector, place-based representation of the energy system by bringing together data across electricity, gas, and other vectors into a single geospatial platform.
